Massive Data Breach Exposes 100,000 Compromised ChatGPT Account Credentials on Dark Web Platforms
Between June 2022 and May 2023, an alarming number of over 101,100 compromised OpenAI ChatGPT account credentials surfaced on illicit dark web marketplaces. Shockingly, India alone accounted for 12,632 of these stolen credentials.
Cybersecurity firm Group-IB uncovered the compromised credentials within information stealer logs that were made available for sale on underground cybercrime platforms. According to the report shared with The Hacker News, the number of logs containing compromised ChatGPT accounts reached its peak in May 2023, totaling 26,802.
Interestingly, the Asia-Pacific region has become the epicenter of ChatGPT credentials being offered for sale over the past year. However, other countries like Pakistan, Brazil, Vietnam, Egypt, the U.S., France, Morocco, Indonesia, and Bangladesh also experienced a significant number of compromised ChatGPT credentials.
Further analysis revealed that the majority of these compromised logs, amounting to 78,348, were breached by the notorious Raccoon info stealer. Vidar followed with 12,984 breached logs, and RedLine accounted for 6,773 breached logs.
