That Link Might Stink

Before entering any personal information, double-check the URL to ensure you're on the official website. Look for correct spelling, a padlock icon, and make sure it begins with "https." These small details help confirm the site's legitimacy. If anything seems off, don’t proceed—one wrong click could compromise your personal information.

Stick to What’s Safe

Only use apps and software that your company has approved. It might seem harmless to install other programs, but it can be dangerous. These unapproved apps can cause hidden problems. They might open the door to viruses or other security issues. This makes it harder for your company to keep your device and data safe.

Behind the Paperclip

Avoid opening email attachments from unknown or unexpected sources. These attachments may contain malicious software designed to harm your system or steal sensitive information. Even if the email looks like it’s from a colleague or someone you trust, take a moment to verify its legitimacy. Attackers often impersonate familiar contacts to trick you into opening harmful files.

App-roved? Think Again

It is important to periodically review the permissions granted to mobile applications, as some may request access to sensitive features that are not essential to their functionality. Unnecessary access to your camera, microphone, or location can pose privacy and security risks. Reviewing and adjusting app permissions every few months helps maintain better control over your personal data.

Stay Secure, Stay Blessed!

Be cautious of emails with subjects like “Lenten Reflections,” “Special Promos,” or “Blessed E-cards.” These may contain phishing links disguised as kind gestures.
Tip: Don’t click on unfamiliar links or attachments. Always verify the sender’s email address before engaging.

Ignore the Roar, Report More

If you receive an email that contains threats against you or your organization, do not respond. Threatening emails are often meant to provoke fear or manipulate you into taking action. Engaging with the sender can escalate the situation or confirm that your contact information is active. This can make you a continued target. Instead, report the message to the Data Security team immediately.

Think Before You Toss!

Even in today’s digital world, your personal information can still be stolen the old-fashioned way — from the trash. Before throwing away documents like bank statements, bills, or anything with personal or financial details, make sure to shred them. It’s a simple step that helps protect you from identity theft and keeps your private information secure.

When Texts Go Phishy

Phishing isn’t limited to email—SMS phishing, also called smishing, is becoming more common. These scams often arrive as unexpected text messages. They may include links that lead to fake websites or attempt to steal personal information. Avoid clicking on any suspicious links. Always verify the sender before responding, even if the message appears to come from a trusted company or coworker.

Pretty File, Shady Intentions

Always think twice before downloading any files. Just because something looks harmless doesn’t mean it is. Cybercriminals often hide malicious software in seemingly innocent files. Be especially cautious with downloads from unknown or untrusted sources. When in doubt, it’s better to skip the download than risk compromising your device.
